We all can improve on our self-care. Personally, I am working full-time, in grad school part-time, and trying to keep a balance of family/friends/relationship, but more importantly myself. Here is a list that we can all benefit from. Try to make a goal to incorporate one of these things into your life, and see how you benefit. You may get addicted to self-care... What an addiction to have <3
1. Give yourself time in the morning
-We are not programmed to be ready to go the minute you roll out of bed. It’s important to give yourself some time to wake up, drink some coffee, listen to the radio or podcast, make breakfast, or do a chore you know you won’t want to to do when you get home from work.
-Spend some time with your pet, they miss you all day.
2. Keep your morning and night routine as consistent as possible.
-My alarm is “Blow” by Beyonce… The first lyrics are “I love your face…” Basically, the first sound I hear in the morning is Beyonce telling me she loves me..
-At night, prepare for the next morning. Set up your coffee maker, lunch, and your bag for the next day. Check the weather and prepare as needed. Once I didn’t do this and got drenched in the rain, so… always know where your umbrella is.
-The more you do the night before, the less you have to do in the morning, giving you more time for self-care tip #1.
3. Walk at least 30 minutes a day.
-Taking care of you is also taking care of your body. Try to incorporate this into your commute. Leave a little earlier and walk to the farther bus or train stop, or taking a stroll during your lunch break is a great way to get your body moving.
-If you can do more than a 30 min walk, fantastic.
4. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.
-Moisturize every day. You will prevent pimples, wrinkles, and you’ll feel damn good.
5. Be naked.
-So important for loving your body no matter what season it is. If you’re comfortable with your naked body, you’ll glow self-love.
6. Do something new by yourself.
-Go to a movie, a new restaurant in your neighborhood, sit in a café you’ve never been to and read. Anything to get yourself out of your normal routine and out of your comfort zone, even at the slightest, to remind yourself you are a capable, smart, and interesting person. You really are, though.
7. Exercise your mind.
-Instead of scrolling through social media, you can read a book or article, do a puzzle, or write in a journal when you have a moment to sit on public transit or when you get home.
8. Make your space clean and organized.
- Put your things away in the spaces you spend the most time.
-Wash your sheets and towels once a week. There is nothing like taking a shower and using a clean towel and to get in bed with clean sheets.
-Clean out your fridge once a week.
-Bonus tip: MEAL PREP
9. Keep electronics out of your bed (phone, computer, etc..)
-Don’t you think you get enough of this throughout the day?
-To get good rest, you need to treat your bed like a sanctuary. This will help your brain shut off when it needs to.
10. Reach out to people you love.
-Make a list of people you love that you can reach out to. Refer back to this list when you need to talk or check in.
-Inevitably they will also need someone in return. We all need a little extra love sometimes.
